Activity: Get Acquainted with Web Development

In this activity, you will use job sites like Indeed and Dice to get acquainted with the web development field via current job descriptions. The purpose of this activity is to help you start to contextualize the technologies you will be using in this course and beyond.

Instructions

1. Go to a job site like Indeed or Dice.

2. Search for any of the following job positions:

  • web developer
  • front-end developer
  • back-end developer
  • JavaScript developer
  • Node developer

3. Read at least 10 job descriptions that result from your search. For each job description, make note of at least one term, tool, or technology with which you are unfamiliar. For example, in the sample job description below, you might choose Angular.js or ReactJS.

Mod2-4

4. Search online for a definition or description of each term.

5. Open a Google Doc on Google Drive, and in your own words, define and/or describe each term you researched. You should have a total of 10 terms.

6. After you have uploaded your prework folder to Google Drive at the end of the prework, add this Google Doc into the module-8 subfolder.
